- Satellites have revolutionized
our ability to acquire and analyze environmental
- data around the world in
a timely and cost-effective manner. Many new
- and more capable remote sensing
satellites are being launched, including
- new ultra-high resolution
systems that will have a spatial resolution of
- less than 1 meter. These
new capabilities will provide images comparable
- to aerial photography anywhere
in the world. Radar systems also are
- available that can acquire
data at night or through clouds. These data
- are often integrated with
other information (maps, GPS, etc.) in an
- integrated GIS environment.
