NCDOT Archaeology Section
The Archaeology Section is part of the Environmental Unit of the Project Development & Environmental Analysis Branch responsible for helping NCDOT and the Federal Highway Administration comply with the laws and regulations pertaining to archaeology and historic preservation.
When highway projects will have an impact upon significant archaeological properties, this section works to minimize and mitigate those impacts so that the historic and prehistoric heritage of North Carolina is not lost through highway construction.
