Man in Space

This part of the exposition is about the history of human space missions. The era of human space exploration began when Yury A. Gagarin made the first human space voyage on April 12, 1961 in the "Vostok-1" space ship. Gagarin made a single108 min. orbit of the Earth. This part of exposition is most attractive. It displays the different types of the Soviet space ships of "Vostok", "Soyuz" missions, orbital space station models, equipment of cosmonauts, etc.

- "Vostok". Full-scale model. The "Vostok" was the first Soviet space ship. It consisted of two parts. Whole mass - 4,730 kg. Time of Earth orbit - not more than 10 days. There were 6 missions of "Vostok" space ships. Rocket booster - R-7 ("Vostok" modification). Designer - Sergey P. Korolev.

-"Vostok-5". Original Capsule of "Vostok-5" space ship. Valery F. Bykovsky flew his space mission in June 14-19, 1963, completing 119 hours, 6 minutes of space flight. Mass - 2400 kg. Diameter - 2,3 m. There is the signature of the cosmonaut inside of the capsule.

- "Soyuz-34". Original Capsule of "Soyuz-34" space ship. Vladimir Lyahov & Valery Rumin were recovered by this capsule from space in August 19, 1979. These multi-place (for three cosmonauts) space ships were designed in 1962 for the first Lunar piloted mission. Later, they were used for Earth orbital and space station supply missions. Mass of space ship - 6.38 t. Mass of the capsule - 2.8 t. Designer - Korolev's Design bureau.

Rocket booster - R-7 ("Soyuz" modification). This type of space ship is in use today in Russia (modification "Soyuz-TM"). This vehicle is located in the museum's Rocket Park.

- Space presure suits. There are several of them, of different types, in museum's collection. All the soviet's presure suits were designed at the "Zvezda" ("Star") plant.

- Orbital Space station. There are copy models (M 1:3) of "Salut-6" and "Mir" space stations in the museum. It is possible to use them in different exhibitions.
