La Terrasse

La Terrasse is one of the highest places within the great hill fort. It is located at the southern edge of the fortified town. No vestiges of structures has ever been found there, so archaeologists theorize that La Terrasse was a sacred space some 100 meters (300 feet) on a side. It was leveled in antiquity and is surrounded by a double ditch. It is a hauntingly beautiful place filled with ancient Beech trees, a mysterious, silent, and wondrous place. On a clear day, when standing on the scenic overlook on the edge of the terrace, you can see the distant volcanic mountains of the Auvergne that lie south of Bibracte.
