This chapel was constructed in 1873 and sits upon the foundation of an older 18th-century temple, an even older 10th-century chapel, a paleo-Christian edifice, and a Gallo-Roman-era temple that was a smaller version of the massive "Temple of Janus" still standing near Autun, some 22 km east of Bibracte.
A cross near the chapel was raised in 1851 in honor of St. Martin, evangelist to the Aedui in the 4th century AD, who visited Mont Beuvray.
