The Research Center was completed in 1995, and it houses the various permanent and visiting researchers. The facility provides state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, curation, meeting space, and offices for the permanent staff of over 30. The main facility is augmented by large housing, dining, and other support facilities in Glux which are heavily used during the summer excavation season by teams from universities throughout Europe.
The Research Center is not open to the public, but the excellent research library is available to the public year round during business hours.
Glux-en-Glenne is the village where the Research Center is located, 3 km from Mont Beuvray. It is a small hamlet of perhaps twelve houses. The name is a corruption of 'lieu' or a place or habitation. An ancient text refers to it as 'locus in bosco,' or the place in the woods. Glenne is the name of an ancient lord. Bibracte and the museum can be seen in the distance.
